Abstract

The current study aims to investigate the relationship between workload and psychological hardiness and its dimensions (commitment- control- challenge) among nurses. To achieve our objective, we applied the correlational approach. (157) Saudi nurses, both males and females participated in this study, they answered the Workload Scale (Van Veldhoven & Meijman, 1994) and the Psychological Hardiness Scale (Hystad et al., 2010). All psychometric properties of the scales were verified after their translation. Our results showed an inverse relationship between workload and the overall degree of psychological hardiness and its two dimensions (commitment – challenge) at significant level of (.01), While the relationship with the control dimension was at a significance level of (.05). This indicates that the higher the degree of psychological hardiness or one of its dimensions, the lower the workload, and vice versa. Accordingly, we recommend paying attention to the phenomenon under study, because it is part of the profession's nature, which requires attention, and later to adapt it to suit the time and capabilities of the nurses, in addition to enhancing their personal resources such as psychological hardiness through guidance programs
