Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and Their relationship to stressful situations among firefighters and Paramedics

Abstract

The study aims to identify the stressful situations that firefighters and Paramedics are exposed and its relationship to post-traumatic stress symptoms, and the differences between the two samples. The sample consists of (N=352) male, they respond to the list of traumatic situations for firefighting and Paramedics, and (DTS). The results show a discrepancy in exposure to traumatic situations between firefighting and Paramedics, and car accidents and the presence of many victims are higher in the two samples, there are differences between them in exposure to traumatic situations for Paramedics, There are significant differences between them in the dimension of arousal on the (DTS) for Paramedics, There is a positive significant relationship between PTSD and its dimensions and between each of the degrees of exposure to trauma and the intensity of shock for the firefighting sample, The relationship between PTSD and its dimensions with the severity of traumatic situations is greater than with exposure to traumatic situations, while there is a significant relationship between the distance of recovery and the degree of exposure to trauma in the Paramedics sample, and between the total Score of shock and its dimensions, and the degree of trauma severity among the Paramedic men sample.
