Addiction to Electronic Games and its Relationship to Learned Helplessness among Secondary Stage Students in Sakaka

Abstract

The current research aims to reveal the level of addiction to electronic games among secondary school students in the city of Sakaka and its relationship to learned helplessness. The research compared the variables among students at the academic and class levels. To achieve the current objectives, two scales were developed: addiction to electronic games and learned helplessness, and the psychometric implications of the two scales were verified. A sample of secondary school students was randomly selected, amounting to (392) students. After analysis using the SPSS program by using arithmetic means, standard deviations, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and one-way analysis of variance, the research results showed that there is an average level of addiction to electronic games and learned helplessness among students, and there is a positive correlation between addiction to electronic games and learned helplessness. The results also indicated that students with a low academic level have higher levels of addiction to electronic games and learned helplessness, and that there are no differences between students in both variables according to the class level. Based on this, the researcher came out with several recommendations; Including: the necessity of working to help those with low academic achievement levels reduce
